Graduate
Fellowships
Graduate Teaching Associateships (TA's) are held in either
the Physics or Chemistry Departments and receive salaries of
at least $20,000 for a 12-month appointment. In addition,
fees and tuition (totaling over $24,000 per year for
non-residents) are paid for students holding Graduate
Associate appointments. This does not include health
insurance or the COTA fee. The TA's duties involve about 8
contact hours per week plus class preparation and grading
during three of the four academic quarters. A variety of
University Fellowships are also available for highly
qualified applicants, on a competitive basis, and permit
them to devote their full energies to graduate work
throughout their first year. The stipends for these are
presently on a par with TA positions. Students are not
usually admitted to the program without financial support of
some kind being given.
NOTE to international
(non-English speaking) students: If you are required to show
English proficiency through the SPEAK test (click here to download a sample)
upon arrival at OSU, then your appointment will be at a
lower stipend level ($1,000 per month) until you are
certified to teach. This will be explained in your offer
letter.
